Faculty Models

Medicine-Pediatrics Residency Program

Med-Peds Faculty Models

It is important to understand our med-peds attending work models in order to highlight the kinds of positions we have for people who are med-peds trained and want to continue to see both adults and pediatric patients. The diversity of models is a big reason why over 1/3 of all of our graduates have had their first position right here in the local community and why students choose our residency program. Our models allow for career minded people to stay for long periods of time and advance in their roles.

Hospitalist: Med-Peds

We have a variety of hospitalist models for our med-peds attendings.

ChristianaCare

Those that are med-peds hospitalists at ChristianaCare work for our hospital owned practices in internal medicine (Christiana Care Hospitalist Partners) and pediatrics (Christiana Pediatric Hospitalists). Generally, every 4 weeks attendings switch specialties. Coordination is through a med-peds faculty member.

  • Internal Medicine: Med-Peds attendings get to interact with our residents, students and advance practice clinicians on general medicine teams at Christiana and Wilmington Hospitals (can prefer to work at both or one hospital)
  • Pediatrics: Med-Peds attendings get to interact with our residents, students and advance practice clinicians on well-baby, delivery room, general pediatrics, emergency department consultations and neonatal abstinence syndrome teams at Christiana Hospital. In addition, many med-peds attendings work in other community hospital settings including Beebe Hospital (Dover, Delaware) and Union Hospital (Elkton, Maryland)

ChristianaCare/Nemours

Those that are med-peds hospitalists at ChristianaCare/Nemours work for hospital owned practices in internal medicine (Christiana Care Hospitalist Partners) and pediatrics (Nemours Pediatric Hospitalist Group). Generally, every 4 weeks attendings switch specialties. Coordination is also through a med-peds faculty member.

  • Internal Medicine: Med-Peds attendings get to interact with our residents, students and advance practice clinicians on general medicine teams at Christiana and Wilmington Hospitals (can prefer to work at both or one hospital)
  • Pediatrics: Med-Peds attendings get to interact with our residents, students and advance practice clinicians on general pediatrics teams and emergency department consultations

Mixed inpatient/outpatient

Several med-peds attendings have outpatient med-peds practices and spend some time on the inpatient pediatrics (ChristianaCare or Nemours) and/or inpatient medicine (ChristianaCare) services

Med-Peds Hospitalist Service and consultation service

Med-Peds attendings have the opportunity to staff a service of patients admitted from our Center for Special Health Care Needs (e.g. sickle cell, cerebral palsy) and Independence at Home (home bound patients) outpatient services. Attendings are also available to consult for patients on general medicine services and ICUs throughout the hospital (e.g. help with dosing of medications, learn about types of child onset conditions).
