The Supportive and Palliative Care team at ChristianaCare, in affiliation with Sidney Kimmel Medical College at Thomas Jefferson University, is dedicated to training physicians to be experts in the prevention and management of suffering amongst patients (and their caregivers) who are facing serious illness. Our focus is on providing care to our community and partnering with our patients to deliver goal-concordant care through listening and taking the time to learn what is most important to them.

In this 1-year ACGME-accredited fellowship, fellows have the opportunity to see patients across a variety of settings, both inpatient and outpatient, including ChristianaCare’s main campus at Newark, ChristianaCare at Wilmington, Nemours Children’s Hospital, Wilmington Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Accent Care Hospice in Newark and Delaware Home Hospice. Through these diverse clinical training experiences fellows develop expertise in the care of seriously ill patients and their caregivers, while receiving close supervision and mentorship.

Clinical training is enhanced by dedicated educational sessions including a multi-institutional boot camp, communication workshops, didactic sessions, journal clubs, case conferences and ethics conferences. We partner closely with the palliative care faculty and HPM fellow at Nemours, as well as other regional HPM programs, to maximize educational opportunities and collaborate with peers. Fellows benefit from our robust interdisciplinary team, working in concert with advanced practice clinicians, social workers, nurses, medical assistants, and chaplains to provide whole person care.

In this fellowship, you will develop an expertise in providing state of the art supportive and palliative care to patients facing serious illness and their caregivers. Graduates will satisfy requirements for board certification in Hospice and Palliative Medicine.

Currently we accept one trainee into the program per year. Applications are accepted per ERAS.

Thank you for your interest in our program. We are excited and passionate about your training in palliative care. Please do not hesitate to contact me with questions.
