Resident Wellbeing

Wellbeing during residency and fellowship

Residency or fellowship is an exciting step of the formative journey toward becoming a clinician. Training can be highly demanding, with significant pressure and stakes. Due to a host of drivers, physicians and other clinicians can experience burnout, emotional exhaustion, and lack of professional fulfillment.

ChristianaCare’s Center for WorkLife Wellbeing is a leader in individual and organizational initiatives to foster work life meaning, connection and joy. The Center offers education, programs, and partnerships. Led by Dr. Heather Farley, Chief Wellness Officer and Dr. Katie Godfrey, Director, the Center collaborates with C suite executives and leaders across the system to create and maintain a culture of wellbeing, efficiency of work, and personal wellbeing. The Center partners, advocates, and provides support to all ChristianaCare caregivers through a well-established peer support program and a robust wellbeing ambassador network.

A dedicated resident wellbeing specialist is available for you. Dr. Mark Mason is a psychologist who leads Wellbeing Rounds, a quarterly, one-hour discussion focused on a topic relevant to your health and wellbeing during residency and fellowship. He can meet with you individually for confidential wellbeing consultations to identify a whole range of resources to foster your success during residency/fellowship.

These resources include:

  • Relaxation rooms.
  • Mental health services.
  • Litigation support.
  • Peer support.
  • Advocacy.
