Conferences & Teaching

Cardiovascular Disease Fellowship

We have a dedicated Associate Program Director who works directly with the chief fellow and fellows to constantly evaluate, refine and adjust our conference schedules to assure maximum learning and the best time utilization possible.

A core cardiology lecture series, board review and ECG reading conferences are offered along with subspecialty conferences and teaching rounds. We have added virtual formats for many of our conferences.

Cardiology grand rounds and medical grand rounds feature nationally known professors from ChristianaCare or visiting professors from prestigious institutions throughout the country.

A combined cardiology and cardiovascular surgery conference and a cath lab/morbidity and mortality conference are conducted monthly as well as Journal Club, echocardiography, combined CV/ER and research conferences.

Fellows are responsible for presenting cases at core conferences and for periodically reporting on their research projects at monthly research conferences, with a final report upon project completion.

In Journal Club, each fellow is required to present a minimum of two conferences a year which will involve selecting and critically reviewing one or two articles with the assistance of a designated cardiology attending.

Teaching

Cardiovascular disease fellows have the opportunity through core lectures, clinical rotations and consults, to teach residents and students in internal medicine and other specialties. These include second, third and fourth-year students who rotate with us through our affiliation with Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia, as well as those who visit from medical schools around the country. Fellows also have the opportunity to interact with and teach allied health professionals in a variety of settings.
