About Our Program

General Surgery Residency Program

Our Program’s Aim:

ChristianaCare’s Surgery Residency strives to provide opportunities for learners which promote attainment of individualized career goals, within the context of graduating competent and caring general surgeons. Individual goals may include participation in subspecialty training, and the program has a responsibility to prepare residents for achieving and excelling in further training or general surgical practice. The program does so by ensuring a clinical immersion in the care of surgical patients in a deep and broad range of discipline content requisite for the contemporary general surgeon, including open and minimally invasive (inclusive of robotic) procedures. Yet, recognizing the successful surgeon must possess more than a broad range of medical knowledge and adept technical skills, the program and faculty will continue to nurture the humanistic characteristics of the learners, enhancing graduates’ ability to establish therapeutic relationships, interpersonal skills, and desire for life-long learning; and, to encourage recognition of ‘citizenship’ responsibilities.
