On December 7, 1787, Delaware became the first state when it was the first to ratify the US Constitution. On May 5, 2026, ChristianaCare became the first Anesthesiology residency in the state of Delaware. The mission statement for the residency is “To create perioperative physicians who will deliver compassionate patient care that is culturally sensitive, will embrace life-long learning, and will be role-models for other members of the health care team.” This mission statement guides the education of the resident to create perioperative physicians who will become leaders. The advantage to this program is that the curriculum is flexible allowing for the resident to focus on their specific interests while fulfilling the requirements to become board-certified anesthesiologists.
