Trainees will receive instruction in advanced option candidacy, advanced mechanical support including ECMO, hemodynamic assessment, pulmonary hypertension, infiltrative cardiomyopathy and outpatient longitudinal follow up. Trainees with an interest in sub-specialty areas may have the option to pursue further electives in that regard.
In addition to clinical training, the Advanced Heart Failure Fellow will participate in the alternating weekly infiltrative cardiomyopathy and pulmonary hypertension lectures, weekly LVAD meetings, and weekly meetings with UPenn and Temple University for transplant candidate presentations. Formal didactics will also be undertaken covering all areas of advanced heart failure to ensure preparedness for the respective board examination. The interested fellow will also provide teaching and assistance to general fellows and residents on heart failure service, as well as in the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit.
Clinical Responsibilities:
- Call one night per week and one weekend per month.
- Monday to Friday Heart Failure Service 7am to 5pm at ChristianaCare.
- Half Day Clinic once a week.
- 4-5 four-week rotations at University of Pennsylvania for Cardiac Transplant Rotation.
