ChristianaCare has been a top-rated academic medical center for more than a century. Our residents and fellows experience a rigorous and rewarding combination of academic training and hands-on experience.
ChristianaCare’s fully accredited, four-year OMS program integrates rigorous academic coursework and clinical experience in all aspects of oral and maxillofacial surgery and related disciplines.
Our program focuses on patient diagnosis and treatment, offering residents rotations in anesthesiology, general surgery, head and neck surgery, internal medicine, oculoplastic surgery, otorhinolaryngology, plastic and reconstructive surgery, traumatology, surgical intensive care and pediatric oral and maxillofacial surgery.
Residents receive training in orthognathic surgery, outpatient anesthesia, pathology, implantology, head and neck oncology, pre-prosthetic surgery, bacteriology, infection management, exodontics, TMJ, salivary gland disease, sinus disease and comprehensive care of the hospital patient. OMS residents are involved in all of the facial trauma cases.
Because ChristianaCare does not have residency programs in plastics or otorhinolaryngology, OMS residents are often involved in all major procedures involving these other specialties when dealing with facial injuries.
The program in oral and maxillofacial surgery is accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation and has been granted the accreditation status of “approval without reporting requirements.” The program qualifies trainees for examination by the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.
